Weekly Invitation March 29
In our gospel this week, John 9: 1-41, Jesus meets a man blind since birth. His disciples ask, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” Wouldn’t it be nice if all bad things were the result of bad behavior? Then things like sickness and disaster would make sense. But we all know the world doesn’t look that way. And aren’t you glad? Jesus tells the disciples then, and us today, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned; he was born blind so that God’s works might be revealed in him.”
As Joan reminded me this week, we’re all in the need of healing of some kind: sickness, addiction, forgiveness, apathy, hard-hardheartedness, indirection, the list goes on and on. Jesus invites us to stop looking around for something or someone to blame, and simply admit our need, and accept healing. Jesus invites us to acknowledge our blindness, to our own shortcomings and selfishness as well as the pain, suffering and needs of others. Jesus invites us to have our eyes opened, to be healed, and live anew.
This Sunday, we’ll hear the story of Jesus’ healing, and then move to a time of healing prayer and anointing, following communion. Come and receive.
I’ll see you on Sunday,
Pastor Heather
