Weekly Invitation Nov 4

This week’s scripture comes from the Book of Haggai. It’s a short little book, just two chapters, hidden towards the end of the Old Testament. You could read it with a cup of coffee, and the coffee would still be warm when you finished. Try it.

Haggai is a book of hope written to the returning exiled Israelites. Yes, the temple is in ruins. Yes, the city is a mess. Yet now take courage, all you people of the land, says the Lord; work for I am with you, says the Lord of Hosts. Haggai 2: 4.

Haggai offers hope and encouragement, then and now. to people who despaired their current situation and could remember better days. Notice God doesn’t promise to do the work for us, but to be with us, as we work. As you think about your own life, what are the things that need to be rebuilt: a broken lamp, a damaged car, a broken heart, a disappointed spirit, a sleepy faith? God has a word for you, Take courage. Work, for I am with you.

I’ll see you on Sunday,

Pastor Heather
